§ 62-336. Required equipment.

  • (a)

    Every bicycle shall be equipped with a red reflector which shall be visible for 500 feet to the rear when directly in front of lawful lower beams of headlamps on a motor vehicle.

    (b)

    Every bicycle when in use during the period from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise and at all other times when there is not sufficient light to render clearly discernible any person on the road or highway at a distance of 200 feet ahead shall be equipped with reflective material of sufficient size and reflectivity to be discernible from both sides for 500 feet when directly in front of lawful lower beams of headlamps on a motor vehicle, or, in lieu of such reflective material, with a lighted lamp visible from both sides from a distance of at least 500 feet.

    (c)

    A bicycle or its rider may be equipped with lights or reflectors in addition to those required by the foregoing section.

    (d)

    Every bicycle shall be equipped with a brake or brakes which will enable its driver to stop the bicycle within 25 feet from a speed of ten miles per hour on dry, level, clean pavement.
