§ 62-260. Flashing lights on vehicles.

  • (a)

    No vehicle shall be equipped with any red light or blue light or flashing light which displays to the front or sides of such vehicle, except as follows:

    (1)

    Vehicles used in the construction or maintenance of the roadway system and vehicles used in providing emergency service to disabled or damaged vehicles may be equipped with one or more flashing yellow lights.

    (2)

    School buses and authorized emergency vehicles used in firefighting or in providing emergency medical services may be equipped with flashing red lights as provided by state law.

    (3)

    Vehicles used by full-time salaried and certified law enforcement personnel of any state, county, city, or municipal government may be equipped with flashing blue lights as provided by state law.

    (4)

    Turn signals and the use of clearance lamps in a flashing mode as an indication of a stopped or disabled vehicle shall not be prohibited by this section.

    (b)

    No vehicle except those described in subsection (a)(3) of this section shall be equipped with any flashing blue light which displays to the rear of such vehicle.
