§ 2-752. Attendance.

  • All employees shall be in their places of work in accordance with each department's regulations. Department directors or their designees are required to keep daily attendance records on all employees. "Department directors" are those directors appointed by the county mayor for departments under his/her supervision.

    (1)

    Time records.

    a.

    No unauthorized person may keep time records or otherwise interfere with proper record keeping or punch the time card of another employee. Any violation of this section shall be cause for dismissal upon the first offense.

    b.

    Employees who are classified as "non-exempt" employees under federal wage and hour laws must report both hours worked and absences on time sheets and/or time cards. Employees who are classified as "exempt" employees under federal wage and hour laws should complete their time record in full including both hours worked and absences. This is necessary for payroll calculation of the employee's earnings, annual leave, and sick leave.

    c.

    Lunch period is time set aside for eating. The time is not considered part of the basic workday and is noncompensable. A workday may not be shortened by "working through" the lunch period on a voluntary basis. Deviation from this must have prior approval from the immediate supervisor.

    (2)

    Resignation without notice. Failure to provide notification of absence for three consecutive work days may result in the employee being removed from payroll as having resigned without notice and he/she will not be eligible for rehire.
