§ 2-61. Authority of county executive.

  • (a)

    Appointment. Except as otherwise provided, the county executive shall appoint all department directors established by ordinance or resolution. Department heads shall serve at the pleasure of the county executive and may be removed with or without cause. The county executive may appoint one person to serve as director of two or more departments.

    (b)

    Organization. Except as provided herein, the county executive shall organize the divisions and departments of the executive branch of government in whatever manner he deems most appropriate for the carrying out of his duties under the Constitution and laws of the United States, the state, and the ordinances of the county. The county executive shall publish to the county commission an organization chart listing the departments and divisions of the executive branch, which shall be subject to approval by resolution of the county commission. The executive shall timely amend and republish the organization chart whenever there is a change in structure, and any such change shall be subject to approval by resolution of the commission. A copy of the organization chart shall be available for public inspection in the office of the county executive, the office of the county commission and the office of the county clerk.
